Rising number of female employees in Saudi Arabia
Riyadh - Saudi Arabia has seen a huge increase in the number of indigenous women workers over the past three years as a result of government policies to open up new jobs and create jobs for women.
Since the announcement of Vision 2030 in 2016, the number of Saudi women working in the private sector has increased by 16.4 percent. As of the end of the first quarter of this year, there were 6,34,650 Saudi women working in the private sector. In the last quarter of 2016, the total number of Saudi women in the private sector was 5,45,158. Government policies as part of the Vision 2030 Plan and the National Transformation Plan have contributed to this achievement. Policies and schemes, including driving licenses for women, travel assistance for private sector employees up to 80 per cent, and feminization in a few sectors, have helped increase the number of Saudi women employees in the private sector.
The number of Saudi women working in government service has also risen to record levels. As of the end of the first quarter of this year, 5,02,220 Indigenous women were employed in the government service. There are a total of 1136,870 Saudi women workers in the private and government sectors. 44% of Indigenous women workers are in the public sector and 56% are in the government service.
As of the end of the first quarter of this year, 41 percent of all government employees were women. There are a total of 12.3 lakh Indigenous employees in government service. In the private sector, 32 percent of Indigenous people are women.
As of the end of the first quarter of this year, the private sector employed 19.75 lakh people. According to the General Organization for Social Insurance and the Ministry of Civil Services, there are a total of 32 million Saudi employees in the public and private sectors. Of these, 35% were women. This figure does not include those working in the security and military services.
In one year, the number of Saudi women working in the public and private sectors increased by 5.7 percent. There were 10.76 lakh Saudi women in the government and private sector in the first quarter of last year. The number of women workers in the private sector rose by 15,400 and the government sector by 6,100 in three months. Unemployment among women fell by 2.7 percent in three months. The unemployment rate among Saudi women was 30.8 percent in the last quarter of last year.
