Riyadh - The number of domestic workers in Saudi Arabia has increased by 50 percent in two years, according to official figures. The number of domestic workers has increased by 12.1 lakh in two years. As of the end of the first quarter of this year, there were 3.6 million domestic workers in Saudi Arabia. In the first quarter of 2018, the number of domestic workers was 23.9 lakh.


Domestic workers include housemaids, cleaners, watchmen (Harris), cooks, tuition teachers, nurses, home nurses, and house drivers. Last year, 13 lakh work visas were issued to recruit foreign workers. In 2018, six lakh visas were issued to foreign workers. Visas issued to foreign workers increased by 116 per cent last year. About five lakh visas were issued last year to recruit domestic workers. Of the total work visas issued last year, 38.4 per cent were for domestic workers.

The number of domestic workers rose to 28.6 lakh in the first quarter of last year. In the first quarter of 2018, the number of domestic workers was 23.9 lakh. Between the first quarter of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019, the number of domestic workers increased by 4,64,594.


According to the General Authority for Statistics, the number of domestic workers has increased by 25.8 per cent in the past one year. In the first quarter of 2019, the number of domestic workers was 28.6 lakh. The number of domestic workers rose to 36 lakh in the first quarter of this year.

According to the latest figures, the number of male domestic workers has risen to 25.98 lakh. In the first quarter of last year, there were 19.18 lakh male domestic workers. During the same period, the number of women domestic workers increased from 9,45,273 to 10.6 lakh.


The number of domestic workers increased by 3.75 per cent in the first quarter of this year compared to the same quarter last year. In the first quarter of this year, the number of male domestic workers increased by three per cent. The number of male domestic workers in the last quarter of last year was 25.22 lakh. The number of female domestic workers fell by 8.6 per cent in the first quarter of this year. The number of women domestic workers in the last quarter was 11.68 lakh.
