Riyadh - More than 100,000 students have dropped out of private schools during the Corona crisis, according to the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry's private education committee president. Abdurrahman Alhaqbani said. He was speaking at a workshop organized by the Riyadh Chamber of Private Education Committee to analyze the crises facing the private education sector. More than one lakh students in private schools were being transferred by their parents to government schools.
The corona epidemic has severely affected the private education sector. In addition to student dropouts, private schools have announced tuition discounts of up to 70 percent. This put schools in a severe crisis. School owners and managements are reeling from the financial crisis as they are unable to pay staff salaries, rent, electricity, water bills and other liabilities.
Participants in the workshop put forward some suggestions to mitigate the impact of the Corona crisis on the private education sector. According to the workshop participants, the proposal includes allocating 500 crore riyals to provide micro loans to private schools, restructuring the repayment of loans in the name of private school owners and exempting foreign employees from private schools from levy.
