Riyadh - The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), the telecom regulatory authority, has received more than 70 lakh complaints about phone scams. About 1,80,000 mobile phone connections were disconnected for fraud and more than 1.4 crore fraudulent SMSes were blocked. The CITC also said that it had coordinated with the security forces to arrest the accused in the fraud cases and hand them over to the concerned departments.
CITC works in three ways to prevent phone frauds: comprehensive awareness, technical solutions and coordination with security departments. The commission said the CITC was conducting intensive inspections of licensed telecom companies, institutions and mobile phone pockets to detect violators of the rules and regulations and ensure compliance.
