Under the Saudi Arabian Emigration Act, a visit visa cannot be converted into a residence permit (iqama). Holders of family and business visit visas are required to return from the country within the allotted time. Under the current law, it is not possible to convert such visas into permanent residence visas. Therefore, visitors are required by law to return to their home country within the allotted time. Otherwise they will face legal action. (In special cases, the Home Ministry may change the visit visa to a permanent residence visa as required by law. This is within the purview of the Home Minister)
