50% VAT ON SWEET DRINKS IN SAUDI FROM DECEMBER.



50% VAT on sweets will be charged in Saudi from December. The Zakat Income Tax Authority has informed about this. Already, 100% VAT is charged on soft drinks, energy drinks and tobacco products.

Beginning in the first week of December, Saudi Arabia will impose a 50 per cent value added tax on sweet drinks. The Zakat Income Tax Authority has announced that the tax will be charged on sweet drinks.

All sweetened goods including sugar will be taxed at an increased rate. All ready made sweets, including ready-to-drink, flour or gel, will be covered by 50% Tax.Taxes are aimed at reducing the use of such products. Waleed bin Abdul-Rattan Alwakeel, Senior Auditor in charge of the General Authority, said.

Earlier, 100% tax was imposed on soft drinks, energy drinks, tobacco products and liquids used in smoking equipment.
