Riyadh - The government sector employs about 47,062 foreigners, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. Of these, 24,800 are males and 22,300 are females. Statistics show that the number of foreign workers in the government sector has dropped dramatically in the last few years. A few years ago, the government sector had about three and a half lakh foreign workers. The vast majority of foreign workers are in the health and education sectors. According to the latest figures, the government sector employs a total of 12.73 lakh people, both nationals and foreigners. Of these, 96.3 per cent are natives. At the end of last year, there were 7,28,300 males and 4,98,400 females working in the government sector.
The Ministry of Manpower and Social Development had 82.34 lakh employees in the private sector at the end of last year. The number of private sector employees decreased by 4.2 percent in 2019 compared to 2018. 20.6 percent of private sector employees are Saudis. The private sector employs 65.36 lakh foreigners and 16.98 lakh nationals.
The private sector employs about 11 lakh Saudi men. Compared to 2018, the number of Saudi male employees in the private sector fell by one and a half percent last year. About six lakh Saudi women are employed in the private sector. Compared to 2018, the number of Saudi women employees in the private sector increased by 2.8 percent last year.
