As part of a plan to gradually resume Umrah pilgrimage and ziyarat, the third phase is expected to attract at least 2.5 lakh pilgrims from foreign countries, said Hani Ali al-Umayri, a member of the Hajj and Umrah National Committee and a hotel committee member under the Mecca Chamber of Commerce. 531 Umrah service companies and institutions are well equipped to receive and provide services to foreign Umrah pilgrims. Arrangements will be made for the pilgrims to fully comply with the protocols and norms that ensure the health and safety of foreign Umrah pilgrims.
In Makkah, permission for foreign pilgrims is expected to increase business by 25 per cent in the hotel, transport and trade sectors. In the third phase, it is expected that the arrival of foreign pilgrims to the holy land will bring in 25 crore riyals to the institutions in the related sectors. As many as 6,500 foreign Umrah agencies, 32 sites and portals are waiting to start booking foreign Umrah pilgrims as part of the third phase.
It has started training employees in Umrah regional institutions on crisis management, crowd control, providing better services to pilgrims at airports and hotels, monitoring the entry of pilgrims to the Holy Haram and obtaining Umrah permits through the 'Itmarna' app.
Makkah has strong infrastructure to accommodate foreign and domestic pilgrims. There are more than 1,200 hotels in Makkah. These have more than 270,000 rooms of high quality and meet international standards. The second phase of the plan to resume Umrah pilgrimage and ziyarat is set to begin on Sunday. In the second phase, only nationals and foreigners from inside Saudi Arabia are allowed to perform Umrah. Hani Ali Al-Umayri said that at this stage, permits will be issued to perform prayers at the Holy Haram and Rawda Sharif in Masjidunnabavi and to perform Ziyarat at the graves of the Prophet and his Companions.
