Delay in receiving the Kovid vaccine is reported to be the reason for postponing the resumption of international flights to May 17

Riyadh - Delay in receiving the Kovid vaccine is reported to be the reason for postponing the resumption of international flights to May 17. The health minister has said that the companies that make the corona vaccine have delayed the delivery of the contracted vaccine dose installments on time. In the wake of the outbreak of the second wave of the corona epidemic in many countries, it is important for the country to achieve a high level of social immunity before issuing a foreign travel permit. Saudi also wants to maintain public health and low morbidity rates.

In view of all this, the decision to lift the ban on foreign travel by Saudi nationals and to fully open land, sea and air borders has been postponed to May 17 instead of March 31.
The land, sea and air borders will be fully open from 1 am on Monday, May 17, and Saudi nationals will be allowed to travel abroad. The Home Ministry said it would monitor the latest developments in this regard.
The non-receipt of vaccine stockpiles as previously ordered and contracts prompted authorities to postpone the resumption of international services and the opening of borders. Currently, Pfizer-Biontech vaccine is used in Saudi Arabia. So far, vaccination centers have been opened only in Riyadh, Jeddah, the Eastern Province and Madinah. AstraZeneca and modern vaccines are also approved for use in Saudi Arabia. The modern vaccine has not yet arrived in the country.
A few days ago, Adar Poonawala, CEO of the Serum Institute of India, announced that the AstraZeneca vaccine would be sent to Saudi Arabia in ten days. The company has suspended production of the Pfizer-Biotech vaccine in a bid to boost production capacity, delaying the supply of the vaccine to Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world.
Due to this, the vaccination time in Saudi Arabia has been rescheduled. The Ministry of Health was the first to reschedule appointments for the first dose of the vaccine. Shortly after receiving the first dose, the Ministry of Health began to reschedule appointments for the second dose. The Ministry of Health has announced that vaccine distribution will be intensified and vaccine centers will be opened in all provinces as more vaccine stockpiles become available.
The Interior Ministry announced on the 20th of last month the decision to suspend international services and close borders for a week in the wake of the emergence of new strains of the severe corona virus in a few countries. This was later extended for another week. Earlier this month, the home ministry said it had decided to postpone the resumption of international services and the opening of borders until March 31. It was announced that from March 31, full international services will be allowed, borders will be opened and foreign nationals will be allowed to travel abroad.
