The authorities have amended the rules relating to the operation of ladies' beauty parlors. The main amendment is that Saudi women managers will be responsible for running beauty parlors on a full-time basis. The working hours of beauty parlors should be fixed in accordance with the decisions of the Ministry of Manpower and Social Development related to labor law and women's work. The department has also removed the provision that those who work in ladies' beauty parlors should not have been convicted in previous cases.
It is hoped that the new amendments will help create employment opportunities for many Saudi women in the ladies' beauty parlor sector and attract indigenous women to the sector. There are an estimated 70,000 ladies beauty parlors in Saudi Arabia.
