Commerce Ministry spokesman Abdurrahman Al-Hussein said the e-payment system was made mandatory from yesterday in nine areas of operation, including buffets, restaurants and coffee shops. The online network connects restaurants, popular (local) cafes, buffets, food vendors, food preparation companies, juice and ice cream shops, seafood shops, fast food restaurants and coffee shops into nine regions.
The ministry had earlier said that the e-payment system was mandatory for car repair workshops, establishments, laundries and barber shops, including ladies' beauty parlors, bazaars, mini-markets, petrol banks, car workshops, spare parts shops and vehicle upholstery works. The National Anti-Benami Program said that users can lodge complaints about companies that do not provide e-payment facility by calling 1900 or through an app launched by the Ministry of Commerce.
The e-payment system will be mandatory from August 25 in all retail establishments where e-payment system is not already mandatory. With this, the introduction of e-payment system will be mandatory in all businesses across the country. E-payment systems are being made mandatory with the aim of ending the benami business trend.
E-payment systems are enforced in businesses in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, the National Anti-Benami Business Program, the Small and Medium Enterprises Authority and Mada, the Saudi online payment network.
