SAUDI ARABIA TO DEVELOP A SAFE ALTERNATIVE TO WHATSAPP

Riyadh - Saudi Arabia plans to create an alternative system to ensure the privacy and security of WhatsApp data. The move is aimed at securing sensitive and sensitive messages on local servers.

The aim is to set up a system in Saudi Arabia instead of relying on foreign companies for data  security.

The project is being carried out by a team of Saudi engineers and researchers from the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). Users of WhatsApp and WeChat can instead use the newly set up instant messaging platform. The project will be completed within a year, the sources said.

The new chat system will be built using locally developed encrypted software and algorithms. Developed locally and designed with high security and privacy in mind, this platform offers secure transfer of text and voice communications.

Its main feature is that it is free from servers controlled by foreign agencies and can only be prepared using its own human resources, ensuring confidentiality.

The move will have a huge impact on the employment sector as it will create new jobs for the many IT talents contributed by Saudi Arabia. Launched as part of the policies announced by Saudi Vision 2030, which promises cyber security, the project also aims to completely protect communications from hackers. The success of the project will also be a major boost to the country's economy. Basil Al-Umayr, head of national information security at KACST, and Mohammed Khurram Khan, a professor of cyber security at King Saud University, who lead the project, said the aim was to mold the new system to meet the needs of the general public, including cash transactions, ticket purchases and bill payments.
