In Saudi Arabia, sponsorship rules changing after four days

changing kafeel system in saudi arabia

With just four days to go before the end of sponsorship rules in Saudi Arabia, foreign workers in the country have high hopes.

From Sunday, March 14, three laws will be enacted that will mark a turning point in Saudi history as part of efforts to improve labor-employer relations.
The change of sponsorship without the consent of the employer, the issuance of a re-entry visa at his own discretion and the issuance of a final exit visa at his own discretion after the contract will come into effect from March 14.

Conditions for benefits include a minimum of 12 months with the employer, an employment contract, and professional employment registration in Iqama (not occupations such as domestic work).
Even if the contract is not completed, those who have been with the sponsor for one year can move to another sponsor by paying compensation as per the contract to the sponsor. There is also a requirement to give notice 90 days before going on leave.

In any case, a law that Saudi expats have been wanting for years is about to come into force. It is hoped that this will resolve various issues such as unnecessary harassment and labor disputes.
