The qualifying examination for employment in Saudi Arabia will begin in July

The qualifying examination for employment in Saudi Arabia will begin in July. The Professional Verification Program is implemented by the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Technical Vocational Training Corporation.

Under the scheme, foreign skilled workers will have to prove their skills to continue working in Saudi Arabia. Foreigners currently working in Saudi Arabia have to prove through theoretical and practical tests that they are qualified to do the work listed in their Iqama.

Newcomers to Saudi Arabia are required to apply for a work visa only after passing the Vocational Skills Examination conducted at selected international examination centers in their home country. Once they reach Saudi Arabia, they will not have to appear for the exam again. The objective of the scheme is to improve the quality of the labor market and control the number of unskilled workers. The move is to start the exam from next July.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development instructed Saudi institutions to prepare workers currently working in Saudi Arabia for the exam. The employer can select the institutions through which the workers intend to appear for the examination through the website SVP.QIWA.SA. Institutions interested in appearing for the examination can also register on the same website.

There are indications that those with more than a thousand professions in 23 fields will have to pass the exam.
