job qualifying examination in Saudi

The Saudi ministry has said it will give three opportunities each to take the country's aptitude test. Work permits will not be issued to those who fail three times. Newly hired workers will be tested in their respective countries.

The job skills test for existing workers in Saudi Arabia will begin next July, but for those working in the plumbing and electrical sectors, the first phase of the project has already begun. They can appear for the qualifying examination voluntarily through fourteen sites operating in different parts of the country.

From July, qualifying exams will also be mandatory for workers in large companies. The exam will be held from August for employees of large firms and from September for workers of medium-sized firms. The examination will be conducted by dividing the workers in small enterprises into two categories according to the number of workers.

The exams will be held in October for A category and in December for B category. The exam will be compulsory for welding, repair of vehicles and engines, telecom, electronics, carpentry, drilling, oil exploration, various construction related works, air conditioning, cooling and carpentry.

It is the responsibility of the employer to prepare the workers for the theory and practical examinations. Each worker will receive three opportunities. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development has said that the work permits of those who fail the exam will not be renewed. With this, such people will have to leave the country without being able to renew their iqama. The objective of the scheme is to ensure the employment excellence of the workers and to improve the quality of the labor market.
